How can I protect my voice during the winter?

This is a very common question in the singing community and here at Freedom's Vocals we have some options you may find useful.
1- Wrap up warm. You know the drill...Hat, gloves and scarf! It's important to make sure you are well dressed for the season so be sure to wear a scarf to protect your chest from the chilly air.
2- Drink honey and lemon tea. The honey helps to ease irritation in your throat and has antioxadant and antibacterial features that act as a guard from infections. The combination of both of these together provides relief from coughing, soreness and keeps your immune system stronger as lemons are packed with vitamin C.
3- My must have when I need to protect my voice is a Jakemans throat and chest soother. I carry these with me everywhere! I have tried so many throat soothers through the years for pre and post gigs but nothing has worked quite as efficiently as this one. Jakemans offers many different flavours but I find this one is the best for singing.
4- Vocal warm ups and warm downs. Why do warm downs you may ask? Because after performing or singing for awhile our throat is tired and often needs to rest. Similiar to when you are running a long race, you don't immediately stop and sit. You need to stretch and slowly wind down. This is what our voice needs too. There is a great channel on youtube called the Jacob's Vocal Academy. I'll put a link below for you. This channel is great if you are on the go and can't get access to a piano.
5- Stay hydrated. Water, tea, gentle liquids are perfect for keeping your throat relaxed.
I hope these help you stay warm and keep your voice protected in the winter.
Keep on singing!
